Protecting Your Feet From Diabetes Complications
Diabetes can affect the nerves and blood circulation in your feet, making it harder to feel pain, heat, or minor injuries. Small cuts, blisters, cracks, corns, or pressure sores can therefore go unnoticed and may develop into diabetic foot ulcers or infections. Warning signs include numbness or tingling, burning sensations, persistent foot pain, swelling, redness, changes in skin colour, slow-healing wounds, discharge, or unusual warmth. Regular diabetic foot examinations can help identify these problems early and guide appropriate treatment. India's diabetes burden makes early and continuous care particularly important. The ICMR-INDIAB research estimates that around 101 million Indians were living with diabetes and another 136 million with prediabetes, highlighting the importance of early detection and prevention.
